PokerRoom Returns to Online Poker Gaming
Tuesday, January 10th, 2012The story of the pokerroom.com owners isn’t one of the boring stories you hear everyday. The owners were true grinders before online poker went nuts. PokerRoom was one of the few online poker sites that could actually trace its history back to the 20th century. The poker site was launched by Swedish poker players Oskar Hornell and Claes Lidell in 1999, when online poker was still in the embryonic stages. They saw the potential for poker on the internet, and Oskar brought in his brother Karl, a computer progammer, to help design the software. With their combined know how, the three men soon had the fledging poker site up and running.
At its peak, PokerRoom was one of the world’s leading poker sites, boasting a huge player base and a superior reputation. One of the first sites to offer a Mac-compatible client, along with Linux and mobile phone applications, it was also known for excellent, innovative software. PokerRoom was truly a pioneer in the world of online poker.
But surprisingly, one of online poker’s most recongnizable brands is slated to reopen its online poker room after a three year hiatus. PokerRoom returns to real money poker cash games on ongame, they are to be returned once more to the ongame network. Along with Planet Poker and Paradise Poker, PokerRoom.com was one of major brands in the first wave of online poker rooms. The site launched in 1999 and grew to be one of the most prominent names during the moneymaker boom years. That did not spell the end of brand. It continued to operate and was a key name on ongame for three more years. It was in an unexpected move in 2009, PokerRoom closed down; after ten years of operation, players were moved over to parent company Bwin and the pokerroom.com site has remained all but dormant.
The return was first rumored back in November. Unconfirmed sources have informed that the project was started by bwin.party Stockholm employees as a side project. Bwin.party is attempting to sell the network, although the process has been delayed. It is assumed that customers on Bwin will be transitioned to the PartyPoker platform prior to a sale. Their goal is to bring together all the best poker related podcasts on the net under one roof. You can view the latest episodes of all the major poker shows, play and download the mp3s in one click, go to the creator’s website and browse the archives all from one place.
